Glastonbury is a town steeped in history, spirituality, and legend

It is known for its connection to Arthurian legend, the Holy Grail, and as the site of one of the oldest Christian abbeys in England. Glastonbury Tor, a prominent hill overlooking the town, is also a site of great spiritual significance. Legend has it that the Tor is the site of the mythical Isle of Avalon, and that it was here that King Arthur was buried.

In addition to its Christian heritage, Glastonbury is also known for its strong connection to pagan traditions. The town is home to the White Spring, a natural spring that is said to have healing properties, as well as the Red Spring at Chalice Well, which is believed to have been the site of an ancient Celtic well. The town is also known for its many crystal and pagan-ish shops, which reflect the spiritual interests of many of its residents and visitors.

Glastonbury has a strong sense of community, and many of its residents are involved in alternative lifestyles, such as new age spirituality, holistic health, and environmentalism. The town also has a thriving arts and music scene, with many independent shops, markets, and frequent special events and live music. The high street is eclectic, with artisanal and independent shops selling everything from handmade crafts to organic produce, and of course, crystal shops.

If you’re interested in exploring the spiritual side of Glastonbury, there’s plenty to discover. Take a step back in time with a visit to the nearby Somerset Rural Life Museum & cafe or explore the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey. For a more mystical experience, visit the White Springs to take a dip in the icy cold pools, meditate in the shrines and climb to the summit of the Glastonbury Tor, where views stretch as far as Wales on a clear day and atmospheric mists can often be seen at dawn all around. Another popular attraction is the Chalice Well, with its tranquil gardens and natural iron rich red spring water also believed to have healing properties.

If you time it right, why not head over to the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival to catch some live music? Lace up your walking boots and journey north to lose yourself amongst the limestone peaks of the Mendip Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or for a coastal adventure, the popular seaside town of Weston-super-Mare isn’t too far, where glorious golden sands, a grand pier, a handful of fascinating museums and an 18-hole golf course offer something to suit everyone.
